Sail Park City’s Toby Bookman, Morgan Vesco, and Calvin Marsh give us the inside scoop about their experience at the US Open Regatta in San Francisco. Way to go sailors!
Hey I’m Toby Bookman, and I have been sailing since I was 6 years old. I recently attended the San Francisco US open regatta in the ILCA 6. Going into this event I expected tough competition and great sailing conditions. On both days we had excellent breeze ranging from 15-20 knots with 3-5 foot swells. Going into the event I wanted to stay consistent with my results, while also improving my upwind and downwind speed in windy conditions. I succeeded in those tasks. Throughout the regatta my scores stayed consistent and I improved my upwind speed through chop along with my downwind S turns in big waves. Im looking forward to the next regatta!
I’m Morgan Vesco, I have been sailing with Park City Sailing since I was in kindergarten. I recently raced in the San Francisco US open regatta sailing the ILCA 6. Going into this event I was expecting good competition and strong winds. My goal’s for the regatta was to get stronger boat handling skills and controlling my boat through waves. The event had an amazing race committee with perfect conditions. My upwinds got faster and controlling my boat in heavy winds. Stoked on how this regatta went and ready for the next one as well as the US Olympic trials in Miami!
I’m Calvin Marsh I’ve been sailing since I was five. I recently raced in the US open in San Francisco out of Richmond yacht club. I was expecting great conditions and lots of wind. Going into the regatta my goals were learning to S-turn in the waves and sailing upwind through chop. The venue was great with perfect conditions both days with great race committee. I ended eighth overall with 7 races. I finally got S turns down as well as my upwinds through chop. I’m glad I went to this regatta and am looking for to PCC’s.
