PC Youth Sailors At Orange Bowl Regatta - Miami, FL.

Recap From Head Coach Christian Koules -

“Park City Sailing had 5 athletes that attend the 2025 TUUCI Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta, held December 26th through the 30th on Biscayne Bay at the Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, Miami. The event brought together hundreds of youth sailors from around the world to compete across multiple classes in one of the Western Hemisphere’s largest youth regattas. ILCA athletes from PCSA were: Shaler Mahan (ILCA 7), Emmett Ford (ILCA 6), Madeline Mitchell (ILCA 6), Jessica Bell (ILCA 6), James Schwarz (ILCA 4).

The Orange Bowl’s first three days were marked by light, inconsistent wind that restricted racing, with only portions of fleets able to complete fair racing. As the regatta progressed, more consistent breeze filled across the bay, allowing multiple full race days and competitive racing, particularly in the ILCA class where athletes completed 9 races under more stable wind. The variable wind conditions, from nonexistent breeze at the start of the event, to 15+ on days 3 and 4, tested tactical skill and adaptability among the competitors.

All 5 PCSA athletes had upward trending scoreline’s throughout the event, sorting out their large fleet starting strategy, up and downwind tactics, and reach leg boat speed. They are all looking forward to their next event, ILCA Midwinters East, hosted by Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, in mid February. “
