Overview – The PCSA will be conducting a three-session Racing Seminar (two classroom sessions and one on-water session) to help get you and your boat ready for the 2011 sailing season. The seminar will be geared toward beginner and intermediate racers. Topics to be discussed are boat preparation, weather, starting, windward legs, leeward legs, mark roundings, finishing and basic rules.

Your instructors – David Odell, PCSA 2009 Season Champion and nationally competitive Snipe sailor. Ken Block, who brings over 50 years of sailing experience and was a nationally competitive International Etchells, Sonar, International One Design and offshore racer.

Locations – The 2 evening classes are held in the Community Room at the Trailside Drive Basin Recreation building. 5715 Trailside Drive Park City. On the water sessions will take place at the Jordanelle State Park at the Personal Water Craft launch site.

Thursday May 19 from 7 PM to 9 PM – A General overview of planning for racing; including how to prepare your boat for the season and getting ready for each race. Your instructors will simulate how to properly start, sail a windward leg, make a windward mark rounding, sail a downwind leg, round the leeward mark and finish.

Tuesday May 31 from 7 PM to 9 PM – Your instructors will build on the skills acquired in the first session while incorporating how to strategically use wind shifts and the racing rules to your competitive advantage.

Saturday June 4 from 9 AM to 4 PM – The first part of the day will be devoted to proper boat rigging and a demonstration of how to set up the rig for various wind and wave states. From there we will launch our boats and will be coached on the water on sail trim, body position, tacking and gybing. We will finish the on-water session with a series of drills racing on a windward – leeward course and wrap up with a debriefing ashore.

Benefits – Dinner is included at the 2 evening classes and bagels and coffee will be served in the morning at the boat ramp. At 4 PM the season’s first barbeque will be held and it will be an ideal time to socialize with the entire fleet.
