PCSA Sailors at Melges 19 Winter Series event at Merritt Island, FL February 27-March 1

PCSA members Todd and Doug Wake, and Jay Miles all participated in the Melges 19 Winter Series event at Merritt Island, FL February 27-March 1. Friday was a practice day for the teams to get familiar with the new boats. Saturday and Sunday provided Hollywood sailing conditions. Winds blew anywhere from 10-17 knots and these boats really came alive off the wind hitting a top speed of 18 knots. Check out the photos! 7 races were completed and the top three boats were within one point going to the winner take all last race. Doug (former instructor) and Todd Wake along with Ian Beckley ended up second overall. Jay Miles also sailed switching off driving duties on another team. The M19 is pretty easy to sail while the same time being quite physical. As you can see from the pictures it literally flies downwind!
