Date/Time: This Saturday, Sept 16, 3-4:30 P.M.
Speaker: Jana Odou, US Sailing Instructor Trainer, Southwestern YC, San Diego
Topic: As our Junior Sailors build their sailing skills and consider racing locally, regionally and nationally, we want to give sailors and parents a picture of what competing at large Opti, C420, Laser, etc. events is like. Jana will cover such topics as: planning, arrival, mass check-in, rigging, launching, getting to the race course, 100+ -boat starts, etc. Our goal for this talk is to de-mystify the event and reduce anxiety. She will also talk about how organizers and competitors help each other throughout the event to make sure the kids (and parents) feel safe, confident and have fun. Other topics will include Parents role(s), dos and dont’s, hydration before, during and after, nutrition-foods to include and how, clothing, etc. Then finally, the benefits to the sailors derived from the experience (new friendships, learning, lifetime stories)
Bonus content: As an USSailing Instructor Trainer, Jana will also describe and field questions about the criteria and process for our sailors interested in becoming certified sailing instructors.
